Mavo Muurhuizen celebrated the opening grandly on 3 October '13.
During this day Pop up Pallets worked with students on building furniture with pallets.
In a relatively short time, the PuP team guides the young people through the entire process from design to the realization of the furniture in pallets. The children are allowed to design with scale models and thus they gain insight into proportions. After the design phase, it is time to share the ideas in the large group and look at the feasibility, can we actually build this design or are the proportions not right, is it safe, etc.
There is a plenary vote and then a few designs are realized.
Working is fast and requires good focus from the students. They are given responsibility and for most it is their first introduction to the hand drill.
What strikes us is that we see happy faces all around us. The fun of creating is splashing!
The didactic skills are taught in an active way and we notice that the hands-on mentality appeals.
This edition we worked at the location on the Zangvogelweg. For the fall / winter a number of classes have been booked to come to our shed. Groups of about 30 students will then have the experience of learning and working in a creative company. We are looking forward to.
The more people think outside the pallet, the happier we are.
